  • SSP – Four year anniversary world recap

On January 9th, 2022, in version 1.18.1, I started my Minecraft: Java Edition survival singleplayer world, as I realized I never properly beat Minecraft on my own in survival. My intention was to make it last forever. To this day, it is the main world I spend most of my time in. So, today I’d like to go over what I’ve accomplished since starting.

    Builds

I’m putting this at the top, because it’s what dignifies my world the most. These builds are among the ones I am most proud of making, and I am happy I get to keep playing the game around them. Here they are!

    History

01/09/22 – Created the world, and beat the game in 4 hours and 36 minutes

I am aware this is a poor time to beat. It was four years ago, give me a break.

01/22/22 – Constructed my hut in the meadow
05/07/22 – Started the villager trading hall
05/24/22 – Began the construction of the city at spawn (still a work in progress to this day!)

06/07/22 – Updated to 1.19 (The Wild Update), and died immediately to a warden, losing all my stuff

07/04/22 – Filled my ender chest with 27 categorized shulker boxes

07/10/23 – Updated to 1.20 (Trails and Tales)

08/06/24 – Completed the challenge “How Did We Get Here?”

08/12/24 – Updated to 1.21 (Tricky Trials) and found some funny structure generation

10/05/24 – Found the Silence armour trim and made the advancement “Smithing with Style,” thus achieving 100% advancement completion

09/01/25 – Drained an ocean monument and repaired a shipwreck

09/07/25 – Completed my hall of trimmed diamond armour

10/31/25 – Collected every jack o’ lantern wearing mob for Halloween (except the Zombie Villager… maybe this year)

12/15/25 – Started horse breeding to get the fastest possible horse

    Learn more here and here!

    Advancements

I have 100% of the advancements in every category, as of 1.21.11, including How Did We Get Here? and Smithing with Style (fun fact: it took me longer to find the Silence armour trim than it took to complete HDWGH).

The “How Did We Get Here?” challenge, completed

I completed HDWGH on August 6th, 2024 (940 real life days after starting the world) in 1.20.6. Although 1.21 was out by then, I intentionally put off updating the world so that I didn’t have to deal with the six new effects. That would’ve been a real pain, and I don’t know how people do it.

    Closing

In year 5, I want to continue building up the city to the point where you can’t see much of the outside world from the spawn point (central park). I also want to work my way towards the beach (the wheat field is temporary and will be covered up).

Bird’s eye view of the city

Something cool I could build is a pathway from spawn leading to my starter base, and possibly continuing towards the stronghold, as a way to chart the path I took when I originally beat the game.

  • SSP – Hold My Spear

    SSP – Hold My Spear

After two days full of non-stop horse breeding, I have finally achieved the (near) perfect horse. Clocking in at 54 sticks (14.1m/s14.1m/s), 5 block jump height and 24 health, this grey horse combined with my Sharpness V netherite spear can one-hit almost every common mob.

Grey horse, with black dots, wearing netherite horse armour.

Side note: I’ve made the decision to take Fire Aspect off of my spear, because in the event that I don’t one-hit a zombie, the zombie might set me on fire (if you didn’t know, zombies that are on fire have a (30∗regionalDifficulty)(30 * regionalDifficulty) percent chance to set you ablaze if it’s on fire, learn more about regional difficulty here). Also, I learned Looting can be applied to spears!

Throughout my horse breeding, I also learned that mutation may occur, which is the slight chance that a bred horse will come out with colour/markings different to that of its parents.

After spending ~30 hours with Mounts of Mayhem, I can conclude that as far as game drops go, this is a great one. Maybe even my favourite of them all! Now, I’m wondering if the four game drops we’ve had in 2025 meet the same expectations as a typical yearly update did. That’s Spring to Life (spring), Chase the Skies (summer), the Copper Age (fall), and Mounts of Mayhem (winter).

These four game drops have introduced:

    • one new tiered weapon, the spear (first since 2024’s Tricky Trials, the mace)
    • one new gear tier, copper (first since 2020’s Nether Update, netherite)
    • six new mobs, the Happy Ghast, Copper Golem, Parched, Camel Husk, Nautilus and Zombie Nautilus (seven if you count the Zombie Horse as a “new mob”)
    • six new mob variants, the coral Zombie Nautilus, the warm farm animals and the cold farm animals (seven if you count the regular Zombie Nautilus as a “new variant”)
    • two new music discs, Tears and Lava Chicken (first since 2024’s Tricky Trials, Creator, Creator (Music Box) and Precipice)
    • two new flowers, the cactus flower and wildflowers (first since 2023’s Trails & Tales, the torchflower and pitcher plant)
    • one new painting, Dennis (first since 2024’s Tricky Trials, which added 20 – too many to list here!)
    • many new additions to the copper set of blocks
    • …and much more

Personally, I feel the game drops have met my expectations for a yearly update. In fact, I feel the choice to switch to game drops entirely is a good one. It brings me back to my SSP, and Minecraft as a whole, much more often. If you have any other thoughts, let me know in the comments (assuming anyone is actually reading these)!

  • SSP – Horsing Around

    SSP – Horsing Around

Hi again! Today I tamed horses. And bred horses. And bred more horses. And tamed all those horses. Over, and over, and over again.

In Minecraft, there are three important statistics to a horse: speed, jump height and health. Health and jump height are obviously quite easy to measure: for health, use the horse HUD to see how many hearts it has. For jump height, make poles of different heights to see which is the highest the horse can clear. Measuring speed is another story.

    My horse’s health.
    Horse jump height measuring poles.

To get the optimal speed for a horse, you need to set up a “horse course,” which is essentially a short road for a horse to run across with trip wires on either end. The trip wires activate a hopper mine cart at the beginning of the run, and deactivate it at the end. The amount of items the hopper mine cart was able to let through during the time the horse ran is the measurement of its speed. Typically, people use sticks as their item of choice.

I used this design for my horse course. It’s fast and easy to set up, and really has no downsides. The video’s pinned comment states that the approximate conversion from “sticks” (the unit for measurement for horse speed, in this case) to m/sm/s is: 760÷sticks=speed760÷sticks=speed

    The horse course.

For example, a 71 stick horse (mediocre speed) would be about 10m/s10 m/s fast. The max speed is between 52-54 sticks, or 14.57m/s14.57m/s. It can vary due to tick delay.

Health in Minecraft is measured in half-hearts, so while you might think the player has 10 health because they have 10 hearts, they actually have 20 health. Same goes for horses, a horse that has 11 hearts actually has 22 health (or 23, because a horse with an odd number of health won’t display its last half-heart).

The best horse I was able to get today was a 55 stick (13.8m/s13.8m/s), 5 block jump height, 24-25 health white horse with black dots. I gave it netherite horse armour, from the short netherite mining session I did earlier today, which netted me 14 ancient debris (3 ingots with 2 scraps leftover). I also used an ingot to upgrade one of the diamond nautilus armours I collected last night, completing my nautilus armour collection. I still have to find copper horse armour.

I also found a zombie horse today. I think netherite armour looks best on zombie horses, but I’m using my only netherite horse armour on my 55 stick horse, so I gave it green leather armour (zombie horses must wear armour to prevent them from burning in daylight).

My 55 stick, zombie and skeleton horses.

The main reason I attempted to breed the perfect horse is so that I could maximize the balance between damage using my shiny new netherite spear, and style. I’ll have to do some more testing with other mounts, like the nautilus, camel and camel husk.

My next priority is moving all my villagers to a building in my city, so I don’t have to keep traveling between my old base and my current base. The city is at coordinates 0 0, while the old base is at -1350 2100. Using my nether highway makes the trip much faster, but it is still an inconvenience when I’m building in my city and need to restock on materials from the mason villagers.

  • SSP – Mounts of Mayhem & Pediment Sculptures

SSP – Mounts of Mayhem & Pediment Sculptures

This is the first of (hopefully) many progress updates on my Minecraft survival singleplayer (SSP) world.

1.21.11, also known as the Mounts of Mayhem game drop for Java edition, released about a week ago. A couple days ago I made the new advancement (Mob Kabob) and renewed Two By Two and Monsters Hunted by breeding the Nautilus and killing the Zombie Nautilus, Zombie Horse, Camel Husk and Parched.

    The Mob Kabob goal, achieved.

Today, I collected all different types of Nautilus armour, with the exception of the netherite variant. I still need to find the new copper horse armour, and upgrade diamond horse armour to netherite to complete that collection.

    Horse armour and Nautilus armour.

Outside of new features, I’ve continued work on the courthouse/town hall/whatever (more on that another time) by filling in the pediment with sculptures. I wanted to try including the Copper Golem statues introduced in the Copper Age game drop back in September.

The town hall building, with new pediment sculptures.

At one point, I’d like to make a recap of my SSP progress throughout the past four years, as I’ve spent countless hours on this world. There will be moments when I talk about something (for example: the courthouse looking structure) and you may wonder about when I built it, what purpose does/will it serve, etc. Having everything accessible to learn about on the blog will be quite helpful, I feel!

Also, I’d like to apologize for the general messiness and loose format of these posts. My idea with these is not to type up anything fancy, but rather get my ideas off my chest and share my creations/interests with you all.

If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading! I have some more plans for upcoming blogs, such as SSP recaps on specific topics like building creations and item collections, as well as other video games I’m interested in.
